  4.     AWARDED. To Nelson Mandela, 70, imprisoned South African
  5. black nationalist leader: a bachelor of law degree in absentia,
  6. by the University of South Africa; in Cape Town. Mandela's law
  7. studies were interrupted 27 years ago by his arrest for
  8. involvement with the outlawed African National Congress. Mandela
  9. completed his course work by correspondence from a prison cell.
  10. He may be released after next September's general election, and
  11. will be qualified to practice as an advocate.
